Steve Ran 200miles to Raise Funds for Sovereign House GH
Steve raised £2,084.80 including offline donations. Thank you to all who donated and the crew. We couldn’t have made it with your support. Thank you Steve.
Steve is running 200 miles to raise funds for us. Part of the donations will go towards the roofing cost of the building project in Ghana, which will provide a home and security for up to 160 orphaned children, taking them out of the streets and giving them a stable and brighter future. The rest will go towards the children’s summer activities in Salford, UK. Find out why he is doing it:
My name is Stephen Davies and on the 24th of May, I will be attempting to run the Hardmoors 200 race. This is a 200 mile footrace which starts in Hull and follows the Wolds Way for the first 88 miles before joining the Cleveland Way at Filey for a tour of the North York Moors, over the remaining 112 miles before finishing in Helmsley (hopefully!). The race is non-stop and competitors have a total of 60 hours to complete the course. As well as this, there are various checkpoints throughout the weekend, which competitors have to reach by a certain time otherwise they will be withdrawn.
I have ran quite a few ultra-distance races in the past, the longest of which to date was in 2017; when I ran 110 miles. This will be my biggest test by far, but hopefully I can succeed for a good cause!
I am using this race as an opportunity to raise money for this charity which is close to me.
Sovereign House GH is set up and ran by two good friends of mine, Irene and Phil. The charity works hard to improve the lives of orphaned and disadvantaged children in Ghana, providing housing, education and medical care where otherwise there would be none.
As well as this, they provide free IT educational classes in the Salford area, providing twice weekly computer learning program to children of ages 7 – 14 years.
I myself volunteer at these classes and have witnessed first-hand the impact the classes have had on the student’s lives, boosting their confidence and giving them relevant skills which could help them later on in their professional life.
So if you would like to, please leave a donation, no matter how small. It will make a huge difference to helping children in need both here and abroad.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
